It's not a Mazda unless it smokes! Everyone I've ever owned has smoked at start up and I've had quite a few.

The timing is off about a tooth on the cam so the timing is way advanced to make up for it. running a bit lean

The clicking is a hydrolic follower. I don't know what that is exactly, but mine does the same thing. It doesn't affect anything. You can clean it and grease it, but it'll still come and go. It helps changing the oil more often too. I'm guessing that once the truck is warmed up/driven a bit the clicking goes away?
